So it turns out they weren't horribly incompetent all season, it was just the villains MANIUPLATING them to be horribly incompetent. Good job, writers!

Also I get how travelling back in time created two Randal Savages, but where did the 3rd one come from?
I mean if the plan was to blow up the earth in three time periods and you only have two, how does one of them survive the first two explosions to still be in the future?

I gave up trying to make sense of the time travel in this show long ago. Even Doctor Who has more consistent rules than it.
